By now many of us know that chemicals in tap water are bad for your health and some of them increase your risk of cancer. You should only drink tap water if you have a purifier on your faucet or own high-quality water dispensers. But, shop carefully, because all of them are not that great.
How safe are these water filters anyway?
The answer is very safe. Considering what you get from your tap water, not knowing what chemicals are pouring out of your faucets, water filters are very safe whether you are in your home, at the office or on vacation. You will know that the water will be clear, clean and fresh.
Some of the most expensive home purification products do not remove the common chemicals in tap water. Reverse osmosis, for example, removes minerals and other naturally occurring substances, reduces lead content, somewhat, but does nothing to remove chlorine or cancer-causing THMs.
Can you use Reverse Osmosis Filtration?
The Reverse Osmosis Filtration has designed the product called Tap Master Jr. F2 (with fluoride filter) Counter-top Water Filter which is an advanced compound multi-stage water filter that can eliminate over 90% of the fluoride, arsenic and selenium from your tap water, in addition to chemicals including VOCs, TOCs, chlorine and other contaminants that create foul taste and odors in your tap water. The Tap Master Jr. F2 has unique Channel Blockers to ensure even filtration and avoid problems unlike which are found in other competitor’s granular filters.
If you want to drink tap water for your water dispensers and you want to invest in reverse osmosis, you must look for products that include additional steps for chemical removal. But, if you do not want to invest in reverse osmosis, you don’t have to. Public providers commonly use a reverse osmosis step. So, to perform the process again at home would be utterly redundant.
On the flip side of the coin are the very inexpensive products made by Brita, PUR, and other famous companies. Those products were designed to remove the taste of chlorine and its odor. They do not remove THMs.
How to filter chlorinated water?
If you have chlorinated water for your water dispensers, you are drinking and showering in trihalomethanes, like chloroform gas.
There are seven common trihalomethanes or THMs. All of them are known carcinogens and any of them may be present in the glass when you drink tap water that has not been purified using the proper processes. There are only a couple of products on the market that are effective. The manufacturers realized the importance of removing the carcinogens and took the appropriate steps.
Altogether, there may be as many as 2400 different chemicals in tap water. They are only present in low levels, in most cases, but the health risks associated with constant exposure to various combined chemicals is exponentially higher than those that accompany a single one.
The purification steps necessary to remove them include granular activated carbon and a block containing various resins and other filtering media to trap specific chemical contaminants on their surface. If the block is of a sub-micron sized porous nature, parasitic cysts resistant to chlorination will also be removed, along with tiny sediments.
Depending on where you live, you may be exposing yourself to the hazardous heavy metal lead when you drink tap water. An ion exchange step removes more than 99% of all traces of lead while improving the taste and balancing the mineral content of the water.
E-Z Reverse Osmosis Water Dispensers
If you’re at all interested in safe health water you’ve probably thought about buying a reverse osmosis water dispensers. After all, of all the many water dispensers technologies used to filter water, reverse osmosis is one of the best known. Although it works well, it may not be the best type of water filter for you for you to buy.
Because of the chemicals in tap water, many people have taken to buying only bottled brands. You should know that the bottling companies use public supplies, which have been heavily treated, in most cases. Even if it says ‘spring water’ on the label, it is sourced from groundwater.
Environmental groups urge us to drink tap water that has been purified at home, instead of buying bottled brands, because the bottling companies are using up our natural resources and contributing to the ‘water crisis’ that is currently on-going throughout the world.
Don’t let the chemicals in tap water scare you into buying bottled for your water dispenser. Purchase a home purifier with high-quality water dispenser, instead. You’ll save money and protect the environment.
