Don Akchin: Principal, Don Akchin Strategic Communications
Don Akchin helps nonprofits engage with donors and other critical audiences through marketing and communications. A communications professional with more than 30 years’ experience, he formed Don Akchin Strategic Communications, in Baltimore in 2005 to work exclusively with clients in the nonprofit sector. Previously he was Director of Membership Development for The Enterprise Foundation (now Enterprise Community Partners). He served as marketing director for graduate and continuing studies programs at Towson University, and as marketing manager for Baltimore City Community College.
Before coming to Baltimore in 1984, he was a magazine editor for Whittle Communications and a newspaper reporter for The St. Petersburg Times. He won a state first place award in print journalism and a national first place and “Best in Show” award in academic marketing. His articles on nonprofit marketing have been published in several publications. He also writes a blog, “The Accidental Marketer.” He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in professional writing.
Harry Bosk: Principal, Bosk Communications
Harry Bosk, APR possesses more than 30 years of experience in media relations, crisis communications, community relations and strategic communications planning. His nonprofit client roster has included healthcare, environmental and community organizations as well as higher education institutions.
Prior to founding Bosk Communications in 1999, he served as the communications director for nonprofits and public sector agencies including the American Heart Association, Union Memorial Hospital, University of Baltimore and the Maryland Department of Human Resources. In addition, he was a Community Relations Officer for Citi.
His work garnered two Best In Maryland Awards from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Maryland Chapter for client work in media relations and advertorials. In addition, he received a MAXI from the Direct Marketing Association, National Capital Chapter in the category of nonprofit, low budget, brochures. The PRSA, Maryland Chapter presented Bosk with its Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contributions to the public relations profession.
A graduate of Boston University, he earned an MA in publications design from the University of Baltimore.
Jill Calhoun: Media Planner
Jill Calhoun is a media planner and media buyer with more than 17 years of professional experience. An independent buyer since 2006, she helps clients strategize, plan and negotiate placements in television, radio, cable, outdoor and interactive advertising. She also implements promotional merchandising to accompany spot media buys. She has worked with numerous clients in education, government and associations.
Prior to becoming an independent, Jill was for seven years the Broadcast Supervisor at Eisner Communications, a Baltimore advertising agency. Her responsibilities there included negotiating, maintaining and following through on all purchases, monitoring monthly bills and payments, using qualitative and quantitative research to compile competitive analyses and demographic profiles of target audiences and markets, and analyzing advertising results. She has also been a senior media buyer for the Davis Media Group of Baltimore, a broadcast media buyer for Arnold Finnegan Martin of Richmond, Va., and a media buyer for Circuit City Stores.
Jill earned the B.A. degree in mass communications at Towson University.
Marco Kathuria: Creative Director & Social Media Strategist, MKCREATIVE, LLC
Marco Kathuria has been a storyteller all of his professional life – using the power of images and moving-pictures to communicate with stakeholders and end-users. He is the Creative Director and Social Media Strategist at MKCREATIVE, a graphic design, marketing, and video production company, with offices in Baltimore and New York City.
Marco and his team of storytellers, bloggers, graphic designers, copywriters, animators, slide presentation artists, web developers, and video specialists provide comprehensive design and production services, social networking solutions, donor cultivation tools, and new media relationship-building support to associations, nonprofit organizations, and a Federal government agency.
Prior to establishing MKCREATIVE, Marco worked as a freelance producer at public television stations in New York City and Dallas, during which time he also co-owned a television production company, Mystery Trout Productions, Inc. Mystery Trout conceived and developed a number of cultural and music television pilots destined for the public television system.
Marco has won a number of video and television awards, including the USA Film Festival “Finalist” Award and two EMMA Awards.
A graduate of Newcastle University Business School (UK), he earned his Masters degree in broadcasting from Boston University.
